26-Year-Old Mentally Ill Woman Attempts to Ride Two-Wheeler on Bandra Worli Sea Link, Throws 'Gun' at Police

Patrolling employees and police at the Bandra Worli Sea Link witnessed dramatic scenes on Friday when a 26-year-old mentally ill lady made her way through security in a two-wheeler. When cops attempted to stop her, she apparently took out a “gun” and tossed it on the road. Later, it was discovered to be a cigar lighter.

“The woman, who was originally from Jabalpur, came to see her brother in Pune”, according to the police. “She was intrigued by the sea link and rode her brother’s Bullet all the way from Pune to Mumbai just to see it,” a police officer said. The woman, on the other hand, was unaware that two-wheelers were not permitted on the sea link.

When the police stopped her, the woman made her way inside,” an officer explained. While the cops were able to apprehend her, she warned them with a gun. “She wasn’t wearing a helmet and was talking about trivial matters.” “She mentioned she had a gun while arguing, and then suddenly removed a pistol and threw it on the road,” the officer continued.

When they investigated the gun, they discovered it was a cigarette lighter. “The woman is mentally challenged, and her family members said she was receiving treatment for it,” the police added.

“She has been charged with violating Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from performing his duties), 186 (obstructing a public servant from performing his duties), 279 (rash driving), and 336 (an act endangering the life or public safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as other relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. She was granted bail and released”, an official said.

“Patel was unaware that two-wheelers are not permitted on the Sea Link before commencing on his trek. She also ignored the signboards at the Sea Link’s entrance”; according to authorities, “the woman also avoided the two officers who attempted to stop her there”.

The policemen then informed traffic control and main control about the event, and Patel arrived at the exit to find police waiting for her.

“When police officers inquired for her licence and the vehicle’s documentation, the woman refused to cooperate. Patel pulled out a pistol-shaped device and informed the policemen she could shoot when they asked her to follow them to the police station. The object, however, turned out to be a cigarette lighter. Police seized the lighter and the two-wheeler and took Patel to the police station for questioning, telling her brother afterwards”, a report said.
