The CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) policeman who was hit by a speeding BMW automobile at CRPF checkpoint number 1 on the highway on October 1 at 4 a.m. was confirmed dead today. Rahul Sharma, a policeman, was seriously hurt and was being treated in the intensive care unit at Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri East. The body of Constable Sharma has been returned to his family in Madhya Pradesh.
“On Monday night, a CISF constable in Mumbai died, a day after a 19-year-old allegedly ran into him with his speeding BMW at an airport checkpoint”, it was reported. According to authorities, the incident occurred early Sunday morning when the teenager lost control of the vehicle.
“Sharma was on Nakabandi Duty”, according to the FIR, “and was keeping an eye out for strange vehicles. The BMW with the licence plate MH DD03J0305 was going fast. It struck the plastic barricade first, then the on-duty constable. Sharma was thrown to the ground and suffered a major head injury. He was gushing blood from his mouth and head”. His coworkers took him to Seven Hills Hospital. The driver has been released on bond.
“The police questioned the BMW driver, who was identified as Hruday Kawar (19). Neel Chaudhary (18), Krish Joshi (18), Zayan Gauri (18), and Zihan Techchandani (18) were in the car with him”, a report said.
Based on the occurrence, “Hruday Kawar was charged under sections 279 (rash driving), 338 (act endangering life), and 184 (dangerous driving) of the IPC Act, prior to the death of Sharma. The culprit was detained by Sahar police, but he is at present out on bail”.
“The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on Sunday.” He was initially taken to the hospital’s intensive care unit, but he died from complications from his injuries on Monday night,” a police officer from the Sahar police station stated.
According to the FIR, Sharma was stationed at checkpoint No. 1 near the exit gate when an accelerating BMW struck him after crashing through the plastic barricades. According to a report filed by CISF officers, “Sharma was hit on the head and began bleeding”.
Senior CISF officers arrived on the scene and rushed Sharma to the hospital, while the 19-year-old and others in the car had been taken to the police station. The Sahar police department filed a report of reckless driving, and the adolescent, recognised as Hriday Kawar, was apprehended.
“They were on their way to the airport to pick up a friend when Kawar allegedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the CISF personnel,” an officer stated, adding that the adolescent was later given bail.
“Relevant sections will be added to the FIR as CISF personnel lost their lives late on Monday,” a senior police officer remarked.
According to the police, “CISF policeman Rahul Sharma suffered serious injuries after falling on his head and was taken to Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri”.
