Colaba Market Teenagers Taken Into Custody for Sharing Pakistani Flag on Instagram

Two teenagers of Colaba Market  uploaded the Pakistani Flag on 14th August on their Instagram account. They were taken into custody by the Colaba Police thereafter.

According to details from the police, a 26-year-old Colaba resident went to the police station on Monday to report to them that two residents of Colaba Market uploaded Pakistan’s Independence Day story status on his Instagram account. According to the witness, this can result in a decline in the neighborhood’s atmosphere in society.

Right after knowing that the teenagers uploaded the post, the Colaba police along with the ATS went to Colaba market and asked a number of people. In response to this, station officer Dattatraya Chavan and the other officers went to the location and brought both of them to the police station in case of a caste clash.

The two have been known to be 19-year-old students and Colaba locals Zayed Shahabuddin Sheikh and Kaif Amaruddin Sheikh. They were put forward in court. The boys are neighboring residents and graduates of college, and according to information, one of them intends to get a degree in hotel management and the other one is studying a BCom.

Raises Concerns About Social Media Impact

Both teenagers have been inquired about by the Colaba police and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and the problematic video has been removed. “The video was not created by the teenagers, it was just posted by them but as a preventive step, we caught them,” said DCP Pravin Munde. The police then started investigating the situation.

According to the relevant parts of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the police officer stated that the measure was done with regard to the potential cause of disputes. The accusers were held according to Section 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). After a deep inquiry, they were presented in court and released on Tuesday.

Both were taken into custody for defaming I-Day

On Pakistan’s Independence Day, August 14, both of them changed their profile pictures on the social media platform.

The video clip happened to be on both of the accused’s smartphones, based on the police’s remand application. The official stated, “The video was posted a day before Independence Day and could have caused religious conflicts.” Pakistani flags were seen on the stories they posted on Instagram as officers searched their phones.

It was informed by a relative of one of the teenagers that “This didn’t happen with any bad intentions. The video was eventually taken down because it was an accident. It was sent to him by a young friend on his Instagram. Happy Independence Day to Pakistan and Pakistan Zindabad were written on the post, along with a picture of the country’s flag.”

“Police officers then came to our house, caught my son, and questioned him. He is now set free of charge. We’ve talked to our local priest and told them not to engage in such acts,” the relative continued. “We must keep in mind that India is our home nation and where we reside. Sadly, Indian Muslims are increasingly being targeted on social media.”
