Cyclone Biparjoy Live: Gujarat and Pakistan Coasts Brace for Severe Cyclonic Storm

Cyclone Biparjoy poses a significant threat to the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts in Gujarat, India, as well as the adjoining regions in Pakistan. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red alert, indicating the severity of the approaching cyclone. With landfall expected on June 15 near Jakhau Port, Gujarat, preparations are underway to safeguard lives and minimize damage. This article provides updates on the cyclone’s progress, evacuation efforts, impact on wildlife, transportation disruptions, and measures taken to address medical emergencies.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red alert for the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts in Gujarat and the adjoining regions in Pakistan. Cyclone Biparjoy is anticipated to move northeast wards and cross the mentioned coasts between Mandvi, Gujarat, and Karachi, Pakistan, near Jakhau Port. It is expected to make landfall by the evening of June 15 as a very severe cyclonic storm with sustained winds of 125-135 kmph, gusting up to 150 kmph.

To ensure the safety of residents, a relay tower declared unsafe in Rajkot was demolished in anticipation of cyclone Biparjoy. Authorities plan to construct a new tower in the future. This proactive measure aims to prevent potential damage and protect lives.

In view of the cyclone, fishing activities have been suspended at Jakhau Port in Bhuj, Gujarat. As a precautionary measure, a large number of boats have been beached to safeguard them from the impending storm.

Conservationists are concerned about the safety of endangered Asiatic lions in the Gir forest and the remaining Great Indian Bustards in Naliya, Gujarat. Efforts to relocate the lions have faced opposition, emphasizing the need for diversifying their habitats. Although the lions’ concentration in one area poses risks, the Great Indian Bustards may have better chances of sensing danger and moving to safer locations due to their mobility.

As a precautionary measure, Western Railways has canceled at least 95 trains passing through the cyclone-prone areas. This step aims to ensure the safety of passengers and mitigate potential risks associated with the cyclonic storm. 

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has reviewed the preparedness measures being taken by the Center and Gujarat administration to tackle medical and health emergencies caused by cyclone Biparjoy. Central medical quick response teams are on standby, and shelter homes with provisions for rations and meals are being set up to provide assistance and support.

Kandla Port in Gujarat has been closed ahead of the cyclone, leading to the halt of hundreds of trucks in Gandhidham, Kachchh. This precautionary measure aims to prevent potential damage and ensure the safety of port facilities and personnel.

As cyclone Biparjoy approaches the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts in Gujarat and adjoining regions in Pakistan, authorities are taking necessary steps to mitigate risks and safeguard lives.
