Dadar Railway Station, one of the busiest railway stations in Mumbai, is set to undergo a platform renumbering initiative. This decision comes as a response to the confusion caused by identical platform numbers. The Central Railway (CR) has confirmed that both the Western and Central Railways have agreed upon the proposed change, bringing relief to the long-standing problem faced by commuters. With a total of 15 platforms, consisting of seven belonging to the Western Railway (WR) and eight to the Central Railway (CR), the current platform numbering system often leads to frequent confusion, especially among outstation passengers.
Streamlining Operations for Efficiency
A senior official from the Central Railway (CR) revealed that under the proposed change, the Western Railway (WR) platforms will retain their current numbering from 1 to 7. However, the platforms under the Central Railway’s jurisdiction will be renumbered, starting from 8 and ending at 15. This renumbering will create a clear distinction between the platforms, reducing confusion and enhancing the overall operational efficiency of Dadar station.
A Crucial Junction for Western and Central Railways
Dadar serves as a vital junction for both the Western Railway (WR) and the Central Railway (CR). Numerous trains pass through the station, either originating, terminating, or connecting there. The Western Railway section handles an impressive volume of approximately 1,050 trains daily, while the Central Railway operates around 800 trains. Consequently, Dadar witnesses a significant daily footfall, with an average of approximately 1.74 lakh passengers in the Western Railway section and 2.69 lakh passengers in the Central Railway section.
The platform renumbering initiative at Dadar Railway Station brings hope for an end to the confusion faced by commuters due to identical platform numbers. With the Western Railway platforms retaining their current numbering and the Central Railway platforms receiving new numbers, the distinction will provide much-needed clarity. This step towards streamlining operations at Dadar Station will enhance efficiency and improve the overall experience for the large number of passengers who rely on this crucial transportation hub.
