By December, the Borivali East – WEH bridge expected to be ready

According to sources, the bridge in Borivali East’s Shri Krishna Nagar may be fully operational by the end of the year. The BMC has gotten the endorsement of the Timberland division and presently anticipates the last thumbs up from Mantralaya. The work will not begin until after the monsoon, i.e., after October, even if it occurs soon.

In 2021, a portion of the 22-metre-wide bridge over the Dahisar River collapsed, forcing its closure. The bridge was opened in March of this year after the BMC completed the reconstruction of half of the bridge. As the bridge crosses the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the civic body required permission from the forest department for the remaining portion.

We had appointed a special consultant solely to obtain authorization from the forest department. Over a year ago, a proposal was sent to the forest department’s Mumbai office, and permission was given in March. Within 12 days (in April), the main office in Nagpur approved it, and the proposal is now in Mantralaya. A civic official stated, “The project’s modest size may not necessitate Center approval.”

The project’s size, according to a public official, may not require Central government approval. “About 15% of the bridge falls in forest land,” an official from the Bridges department stated. Before the monsoon, we are attempting to finish other work. The portion over the river cannot be constructed during the rains, even if permission is granted before June. By December, the bridge might be finished.”

The 41.5-meter-long scaffold interfaces Borivli East’s three areas Shri Krishna Nagar, Abhinav Nagar and Shantivan toward the Western Express Parkway. Two of the bridge’s four lanes are currently operational.

The BMC has constructed new bridges, highways, and metro lines as part of a number of initiatives to enhance Mumbai’s infrastructure. In recent years, the city’s infrastructure development has been the subject of discussion. One such project is the reconstruction of the bridge in Borivli East, which will improve Mumbai residents’ connectivity and convenience.
