The Dahisar-Bhayander Link Road (DBLR) project, an essential part of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), aims to establish direct connectivity between Dahisar and Mira-Bhayander, improving transportation in the region.
Nearly eight months have passed since the tenders were initially floated for the DBLR project, but the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not received any bids from contractors, raising concerns about the project’s progress.
The BMC had set a six-month window for finalizing contractors after floating the tenders in October 2022. However, the project’s deadline has been postponed more than four times between March and July this year. The extensions were granted at the request of potential bidders, who cited technical issues related to IT as the reason for the delays.
The proposed DBLR project, with an estimated cost of Rs 3,186 crore, has attracted multiple queries from potential bidders. The road will traverse through mangrove patches and creeks, requiring innovative design solutions. Bidders have sought clarifications on technical aspects, leading to the deadline extensions.
The elevated DBLR will stretch over 5.6 kilometers, with 1.5 kilometers falling under the jurisdiction of the BMC and 4.1 kilometers under the jurisdiction of the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC). The road aims to alleviate traffic congestion at Dahisar Check Naka, a significant intersection where vehicles travel towards Vasai, Virar, Palghar, Gujarat, and Delhi via the Western Express Highway, which later becomes National Highway 48.
The elevated bridge, supported by stilts, will have a width of 45 meters and accommodate 4×4 lanes to ensure smooth traffic flow. Emergency lanes will be constructed on both sides to facilitate the passage of emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire brigade engines. The BMC is also considering the inclusion of a multi-level car park and a transport bay beneath the arterial road to address additional transportation needs.
Civic officials remain optimistic about finalizing the contractors for the DBLR project by the end of the week. The completion of this vital transportation link will enhance connectivity between Dahisar and Mira-Bhayander while contributing to the overall development and decongestion of Mumbai’s transportation network.
