The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has chosen the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (DMRC) to operate and maintain Mumbai’s first fully underground Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro Line 3. The DMRC, renowned for its expertise in the Metro Railway sector, emerged as the successful bidder in a global competitive process.
With over two decades of experience in operating and maintaining the Delhi Metro, the DMRC has established itself as a pioneer in the field of metro systems in India. Now, it will take on the responsibility of the day-to-day operations of Line 3, including various critical aspects such as the operation control center, depot control center, stations, train operations, and maintenance of trains and metro system infrastructure.

The DMRC’s collaboration with the MMRC for Mumbai’s first underground metro line is a noteworthy partnership. While the DMRC focuses on operation and maintenance, the MMRC, responsible for the construction of the underground line, will handle revenue management, legal compliances, and non-fare-box revenue generation.
The Line 3 project spans approximately 33.5 km and carries an estimated cost of Rs 37,000 crore. The first phase of the project, connecting Bandra Kurla Complex and SEEPZ, is expected to open to the public by December, bringing the long-awaited underground metro service to the people of Mumbai.
