In an exciting development, the first girder for the Vidyavihar Rail Over Bridge (ROB) project in Mumbai has been successfully launched. This achievement is significant as it marks a crucial milestone in the construction process. The girder has an impressive span of approximately 100 meters and weighs around 1,100 metric tonnes.
Next Phases: Second Girder and Approach Road Construction
Following the successful launch of the first girder, the next phases of the Vidyavihar ROB project will commence. The second girder will be launched, and construction will progress on the 17.50-meter-wide approach roads on both sides of the bridge. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) aims to complete the entire project by December 2024, bringing enhanced connectivity to the area.
Purpose and Scope of the Vidyavihar Rail Over Bridge
The primary objective of the Vidyavihar ROB is to establish an elevated roadway above the Vidyavihar Railway Station tracks. This bridge will connect Ramchandra Chemburkar Marg in the east to Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Marg in the west, improving transportation in the Ghatkopar area. The construction process includes placing two steel girders, with dimensions of 99.34 meters in length, 9.50 meters in width, and weighing around eleven metric tonnes each.
Construction Details and Road Width
The Vidyavihar ROB project involves the construction of a two-lane flyover, spanning 650 meters and facilitating seamless east-west connectivity within the locality. A main bridge measuring 100 meters, an east-side approach road of 220 meters, and a west-side approach road of 330 meters have already been completed. The bridge over the railway track will be 24.30 meters wide, with 2-meter-wide footpaths on each side, providing safe passage for pedestrians. The access road will be 17.50 meters wide, with 1-meter-wide footpaths on both sides.
With steady progress and dedication, the Vidyavihar Rail Over Bridge project in Mumbai is moving closer to its completion by December 2024. Once finished, the bridge will enhance connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion, providing a smoother commute for the residents and commuters in the area.
