Gadar 2 Surpasses Baahubali 2’s Lifetime Earnings, Nears 500 Crore Mark in Record Time

Gadar 2 Surpasses Baahubali 2's Lifetime Earnings, Nears 500 Crore Mark in Record Time

History has already been made. Gadar 2 has now eclipsed the lifetime totals of Baahubali: The Conclusion [Hindi] in less than 30 days. The SS Rajamouli-directed film earned 511 crores throughout its run, and now Anil Sharma’s historical action drama has earned the same amount, making it the second-most grossing Hindi film of all time. The film grossed one crore more on Friday, despite playing on a very limited number of screens and shows. However, the film’s attendance is good, with a high occupancy on Friday evening.

What’s surprising is that Gadar 2 accomplished this achievement while competing with OMG 2 and earning 150 crores. Then followed Dream Girl 2, which is ready to enter the $100 million club. This isn’t all, as Jawan has arrived like a beast and significantly delayed the pace. Still, for the picture to not only cross the 500 crore mark but also break new ground is absolutely incredible.

Next in line is Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan, which set a record-high level of 524.50 crore. It would be tough to track that down now, given Jawan’s success and the fact that the focus of the audience has been distracted. If the film earns 2 crores today as well as tomorrow, it can still attempt to beat the score because the difference is not more than ten crores.

Despite this, if Gadar 2 does achieve No. 1, its period of dominance will be brief since Jawan will ultimately surpass it and become the highest-grossing film of all time by September’s end.

Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol, has been a major box office success, becoming the third-most grossing Bollywood movie in history with 439.95 crores in India. In just 16 days, the film has surpassed the entire lifetime of KGF: Chapter 2 (Hindi) (434.70 crores) and has thus far broken a number of box office records. The film is currently reaching the Rs. 450 crore mark.

You read that correctly. Gadar 2 trails only Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in the 500 crore club. The Anil Sharma-directed film is projected to break the prestigious Rs 450 crore mark today (Sunday), setting a new record for achieving the milestone in barely 17 days. Previously, Pathaan, the top domestic grosser at Rs 543.05 crore, reached the Rs 450 crore milestone in 18 days, while Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Hindi) did it in 20.

Furthermore, Gadar 2 is expected to reach the Rs 500 crore mark by the end of this week, as no other film has been launched this week other than Dream Girl 2, which stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday. It is still to be determined whether Gadar 2 can maintain public attention long enough to reach the Rs 500 crore milestone.

Meanwhile, despite widespread adoration, the film has become involved in controversy, with soundtrack composer Uttam Singh recently accusing the makers of Gadar 2 of using his work without permission. The debate centres around two songs titled ‘Udd Ja Kaale Kaava’ and ‘Main Nikla Gaddi Leke’. Singh claims he was not told of the existence of these two tracks.

Gadar 2 is the follow-up to the 2001 smash Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Sunny Deol plays truck driver Tara Singh, and Ameesha Patel plays Sakeena, who comes from a political background in Pakistan. The film is set around India’s partition in 1947. The follow-up film features Tara Singh as he crosses the border in search of his son, who has been kidnapped in Pakistan.

Singh said that “he had no idea that these two songs would be featured in the sequel and that giving him credit was insufficient”.

Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma has now responded to the charges, stating that “I showed Uttamji all the songs. I’m surprised he said it. Technically, the label owned the rights. Mera aur Uttam Ji ke dil ka rishta hai aur yeh sab sunkar mujhe bahut hairani hai (We have a close friendship, and what he has said has surprised me). It’s still hard for me to believe. I will absolutely contact him now that I am aware of this”.
