Megha Engineering Wins Contract to Build Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel Project, Beating L&T

Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) has won a contract to build the ambitious Thane-Borivali twin tunnel project in Mumbai, beating out engineering giant Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T).

The project, which is being executed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), aims to reduce travel time from Thane to Mumbai’s western suburbs from 60 minutes to just 15-20 minutes. Additionally, the tunnels will significantly cut carbon emissions from vehicles on that route.

MMRDA has awarded Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) the contract for the Thane-Borivali twin tunnel project after they emerged as the best bidder from a tender floated in January 2023, confirmed MMRDA Commissioner SVR Srinivas.

According to Srinivas, the work on the project is expected to begin after the monsoon season. The successful completion of the project will have a significant impact on regional connectivity, boosting the local economy and improving the overall quality of life of citizens.

MEIL’s win in securing the contract for the Thane-Borivali twin tunnel project is a significant achievement in the competitive construction industry. The project’s successful completion will undoubtedly pave the way for more significant projects for MEIL in the future.

The Thane-Borivali twin tunnel project is a flagship project for the MMRDA, and the selection of MEIL for the contract is a testament to the company’s exceptional construction capabilities and project execution experience. With this development, MEIL has proven its mettle in the highly competitive construction industry, and the company is poised to achieve greater heights in the future.
