Jio MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Image) Mumbai Film Festival 2023, one of India’s top film festivals, is returning with its on-location edition in Mumbai from October 27 to November 5, 2023. This year, Jio MAMI is moving in the direction of a broader goal; it wants to be the centre for South Asian talent and film.

The festival’s mission is to present the best films from South Asia, the South Asian Diaspora, and around the world, with a particular emphasis on independent and up-and-coming filmmakers. The Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival aspires to create an environment for fresh cinematic voices that will encourage communication, teamwork, and commercial prospects while presenting the best international cinema to Mumbai.

The Jio MAMI, one of India’s most eagerly awaited film festivals, welcomes entries in the following categories from filmmakers from all over the world and attracts both talent and movie buffs:

  • South Asian Competition
  • South Asian Non-Competition
  • World Cinema

Anupama Chopra, the festival director, reacted to this by saying that they are thrilled to announce the call for entries for the Jio MAMI Mumbai film festival 2023. He also told that they honour fresh and daring cinematic voices as one of India’s most anticipated film festivals.

As told, the deadline for early birds is 31st May 2023.

Jio MAMI Mumbai Festival artistic director Deepti D’Cunha spoke on the emphasis on South Asia, saying that this year they are broadening their mission and moving from being a film festival dedicated to identifying Indian films and creators to becoming a film festival that celebrates South Asian talent.

They also think that South Asian and South Asian Diaspora filmmakers are producing some very great work, and as a festival, they are proud to present this extraordinary talent and these films to their audiences in Mumbai. At Jio MAMI, they seek to find new South Asian talent as well as foster and encourage the independent filmmaking ethos.

They also said that they invite all filmmakers, whether they are seasoned professionals or just getting started, to submit their work for consideration because the festival also honours the work of renowned cinema artists.

They are dedicated to giving the filmmakers at the festival a good experience, connecting them with their audiences, and also building a hub for South Asian filmmakers to engage with one another and build a community.

Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival’s South Asian concentration puts it in an extremely advantageous spot and opens up a whole new world of opportunities for the festival and artists.

Participants at the festival will have the chance to share best practices, go to workshops, and exchange thoughts on how to expand and break down all barriers in the filmmaking process. Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival gives filmmakers a stage where they can challenge and reimagine conventional cinematic assumptions.

It has a long history of exposing unique viewpoints and creative approaches to the filmmaking medium.

Reliance Jio, owned by Mukesh Ambani, is supporting the festival as its primary sponsor, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas is still serving in that capacity, according to the organisers.

The Jio World Centre, a convention, theatre, and concert hall complex in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), will host the festival.

Mumbai Film Festival, one of India’s largest film festivals, migrated online during the global epidemic and hasn’t happened as a live event since October 2019.
