Lawsuit Filed Against Waitress at Mumbai Five-Star Hotel After Hot Tea Incident Injures Seven-Year-Old

A lawsuit has been filed against a waitress serving at a five-star hotel in Mumbai after she was believed to have splashed hot tea on the hands of a seven-year-old child, scorching her left forearm.

According to the police report, “the victim was staying at the hotel with her family and had come to have breakfast at the buffer house hosted by the hotel with her parents”.

An officer stated that on September 27, a Delhi-based family who was staying at the hotel arrived at the hotel’s breakfast buffet at about 9.30 a.m.

According to the lawsuit, “a waiter named Monalisa B collided with the youngster while delivering hot tea in a kettle on a tray. As a result, the tea spilled on the seven-year-old girl’s left hand, inflicting a burn injury”.

According to an officer, “they have recorded the statements of some of the guests who observed the incident and have also requested CCTV footage from the hotel officials. According to sources, the girl’s family wanted the FIR to include hotel management in addition to the waiter”.

“On the morning of September 27, an employee named Monalisa B, who works as a waitress at the hotel, was carrying hot tea in a kettle on a tray when she ran into the youngster. As a result, the tea spilled over the seven-year-old girl’s left hand, causing major burn damage”, the officer added.

According to the girl’s parents, “when she began to scream after the incident, the waitress requested she not to. However, when her parents learned of the incident, they rushed her to LH Hiranandani Hospital”.

According to the medics, “the girl sustained superficial burn injuries amounting to four to five percent burns, after which the parents filed a lawsuit against the waitress and a FIR was registered”.

“The family approached the Sahar police station, which later filed a FIR against Monalisa under Section 337 of the Indian Penal Code (causing harm by risking life)”, an officer stated “that they are gathering evidence in the case and would decide on the next course of action based on what they uncover”.

An inquiry has been initiated into the issue, and the statements of hotel employees and visitors who were present at the time of the occurrence have been recorded, according to a police official. The police will also analyse CCTV footage from the scene to determine what happened.
