L&T Construction Wins Contract for Dahisar-Bhayander Bridge Project, Promising Quicker Commutes in Mumbai

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has chosen the Dahisar-Bhayander Bridge project in Mumbai for L&T Construction’s Transportation Infrastructure business unit. The project entails the construction of a 4.5-kilometre-long bridge between Dahisar and Bhayander that would significantly cut the 45-minute travel time between the two locations.

For easy entry and exit, the bridge will have two independent carriageways as well as a multi-level junction at both Dahisar and Bhayander. The project will also incorporate two huge navigational spans over the creek. In the meantime, L&T is working on two packages for the Mumbai Coastal Road projects, which were also commissioned by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM).

However, at 10 a.m. on the BSE, shares were down 0.65% to Rs 3,002.20.

On Tuesday, L&T announced that one of its subsidiaries had been awarded a ‘major’ contract for the construction of a bridge in Mumbai.

“L&T Construction’s transport infrastructure business vertical has been awarded the Dahisar-Bhayander Bridge project in Mumbai”, according to a statement.

“The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has awarded the project. The 4.5-kilometre bridge will drastically shorten the present travel time of more than 45 minutes between Dahisar and Bhayander. Though the corporation did not mention the exact size of the contract, a large contract”, according to its specifications, “falls between Rs 2,500 and 5,000 crore”.

For MCGM, the company is already completing two folders of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project.

The civil infrastructure department of the building behemoth recently received a “Mega” project from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). This project, estimated to cost Rs 7,000 crore, entails designing and building an underground road tunnel.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is a $23 billion Indian multinational engaged in EPC projects, high-tech manufacturing, and a variety of services. L&T has a strong, customer-centric approach and operates in over 50 countries worldwide. This new project strengthens L&T Construction’s role in upgrading Mumbai’s infrastructure, resulting in better connection and efficiency for the inhabitants of Dahisar and Bhayander.
