Man arrested for smoking mid-air Dubai-Mumbai Flight in Lavatory

Smoking is prohibited on aeroplanes; however, lately there have been more incidents of passengers smoking while being on the flight. The rising numbers of smoking incidents aboard planes is now concerning and it must be touched on.

On August 3, On an IndiGo flight from Dubai to Mumbai, a passenger was taken into custody after it was reported that he had been caught smoking.

Kawraj Tagat Singh, a Rajasthan citizen, was caught smoking in the lavatory of an Indigo Airlines flight travelling from Dubai to Mumbai. The Staff members noticed and immediately detected smoke coming from the lavatory.

The flight crew quickly took action and reported the matter to the Sahara police station after the flight landed. Sections 336 of the IPC Act (endangering the life or personal safety of others) and 25 of the Aircraft Rules have been implicated in this case.

The police will now take further action against the person who committed the crime of endangering the lives and personal safety of other passengers on the flight along with his own.

Smoking is now prohibited by almost all airlines and a huge number of governments worldwide and even authorities are attempting to raise public awareness of the risks and effects of smoking aboard aeroplanes.

Smoking aboard flights endangers the health of both the passengers and the plane’s safety. Yet despite this, another incident took place on a flight from Bahrain to Mumbai not so long ago. A 28-year-old man received a penalty for smoking in the lavatory. The incident happened when IndiGo aircraft 6E-1202 was flying towards Mumbai International Airport.

These repetitive incidents are really now raising concerns about the possibility of smoke inhalation and fire dangers and both can actually threaten the safety of the entire plane.

In March, another passenger on an IndiGo aircraft was found smoking inside the plane as well. The staff was concerned and immediately called the police. The person who committed the crime was subsequently arrested by airport officials at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.

These incidents of smoking on airlines are now highlighting the necessity of tighter oversight and security measures inside the flight cabins for sure. These cases endangers safety of everyone onboard and comfort and to breaking the no-smoking rule.

It is now important that aviation sector look into the technological ways like advanced smoke detection systems to improve its capacity to identify smoking incidents such as this one.

Along with that, reminding passengers of the severe rules against smoking beforehand and while on flights is now even more necessary to ensure a secure and healthy atmosphere, and it is really crucial that both airlines and passengers abide by the strict anti-smoking laws.
