Official civic administration documents, such as property tax bills/receipts, birth/death certificates, and Aadhar cards generated by central government agencies, have accidentally verified the presence of “Bangladesh” within our own country.

Local citizens who are highly opposed to their community being named after a foreign country have been protesting. They disclosed that this location was once known as Indira Nagar before authorities unexpectedly changed the name a few years ago.

No illegal immigrants are in the settlement, which is occupied primarily by local fishing community members. Despite their repeated requests to the city administration to correct the error and restore the original name, their requests have been ignored.

Some locals feel that the steady shift from Indira Nagar to Bangladesh is related to the coastal area’s large population of Bengali-speaking migrants from West Bengal. These migrants are frequently employed as ‘Khalasis’ (assistants) on fishing vessels.

The name change has created embarrassing situations, with people wanting to be carried to “Bangladesh,” emphasising the importance of correcting the name.

While senior tax officials, including Deputy Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Shinde, have decided to stay silent on the issue, Additional Municipal Commissioner Aniket Manorkar, who is in charge of public transport, has assured that the necessary steps will be taken as soon as possible to restore the original name.
