A horrific incident apparently witnessed a few residents of an apartment complex beating an elderly woman for allegedly feeding hungry dogs. According to reports, the 61-year-old woman was feeding dogs when the event occurred on Saturday at around 9 p.m. at the Vasudev Planet complex in the Match Laxmi Park sector on Mira Road.
Tarun Agarwal, a Twitter user and anti-cruelty officer, shared the story and claimed that the woman who was feeding the dogs on the street had been harassed and assaulted for doing so. Several community members who asked Sherlyn Smith (The lady feeding the dogs) not to provide food to stray dogs on the building grounds allegedly treated her badly and threatened her with terrible repercussions.
Senior citizen Sherlyn Smith told the police in her statement that she got a phone call from the security guard asking her to come down.
When she arrived at the compound, some of the residents abused her and threatened her with grave repercussions if she fed the stray dogs there.
After three women assaulted the older person, who suffered minor injuries and lost her gold chain in the fracas, the verbal fight got violent. The entire series of events, which were recorded by a mobile device, quickly became popular on social media. The elderly woman claims that the accused man stalked her for over two years.
At the Mira Road police station, an offence under sections 323 of the IPC, 354-D, 504, 506, and 509 was charged against four people, including three women. But none of the arrests have yet been made in relation to the case to date.
It was less than three days after a stray dog was brutally tortured and strangled to death by miscreants when this incident happened.
