MMRDA install second composite steel span on MTHL connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai

MTHL install second Composite Steel Span

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has successfully installed the second composite steel span on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) project.

The MTHL project is one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in India, connecting Mumbai’s eastern and western suburbs by constructing a 21.8-kilometer bridge across Mumbai Bay.

The installation of the second composite steel span is a significant milestone in the MTHL project.

It comes after the successful installation of the first composite steel span in 2020. The MMRDA aims to complete the installation of all the steel spans by the end of 2022.

Composite steel spans are a critical component of the MTHL project, providing structural strength to the bridge.

These spans are made by combining steel and concrete, which makes them more durable and robust than traditional steel spans.

The composite steel spans are being fabricated by several companies in India and abroad.

They are then transported to Mumbai by sea. The installation of steel spans is a complex process that involves using cranes and other heavy machinery to lift and put them into place.

The installation of the second composite steel span was completed on February 1, 2022.

The steel span, which is 128 meters long and weighs 3,100 tonnes, was installed at the Bhaucha Dhakka junction in Mumbai.

The installation of the steel span was a challenging task, as it involved positioning it in a way that would not hinder the movement of ships and boats in the busy Mumbai harbour.

The MMRDA overcame this challenge by designing a specialized installation process that involved lifting the steel span using cranes and placing it in the pre-determined location.

With the installation of the second composite steel span, the MMRDA is one step closer to completing the MTHL project.

The next steps in the project include the installation of the remaining steel spans, the construction of approach roads, and the installation of other key components such as lighting, ventilation, and safety systems.

The MMRDA is aiming to complete the entire project by the end of 2023.

The MTHL project will provide commuters with a much-needed alternative to Mumbai’s congested roads and rail networks, reducing travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai significantly.

The successful installation of the second composite steel span on the MTHL project is a significant achievement for the MMRDA.

The installation of the span was a challenging task, but the MMRDA overcame the challenges and completed the installation.

With the installation of the remaining steel spans, the MMRDA will be one step closer to completing the MTHL project, which will be a game-changer for Mumbai’s transportation network, making commuting faster and more efficient.
