Ulhasnagar, a bustling industrial city in Maharashtra, is set to receive a major boost in its transportation infrastructure.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced its decision to extend the ‘Thane – Bhiwandi – Kalyan Metro 5‘ route to Ulhasnagar via Khadakpada, much to the delight of its residents.
The Extension Plan
The extension plan entails the construction of a 7.7 km route that will be executed in two phases- Kalyan to Khadakpada and Khadakpada to Ulhasnagar.
To prepare a comprehensive plan for this extended metro line, the MMRDA will appoint a consultant whose proposal will be presented in the upcoming meeting of the authority for approval.
The estimated cost of this extension is INR 8,416 crore.
Why Ulhasnagar Needs the Metro Extension
Ulhasnagar is a city that sees heavy traffic every day due to its industrial nature and as a popular shopping destination for clothes and furniture.
To address this issue and provide better transportation options for its residents, the MMRDA has decided to extend Metro 5 to Ulhasnagar.
The decision was taken based on the demand of people’s representatives in Ulhasnagar and the orders of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Benefits of the Metro Extension
The extension of Metro 5 to Ulhasnagar will provide numerous benefits to the city’s residents.
For instance, it will improve the connectivity of Ulhasnagar with other parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, making it easier for people to travel.
Furthermore, it will also help reduce traffic congestion and air pollution as more people opt for the metro instead of private vehicles.
The metro line is expected to have 17 stations, making commuting to various parts of the city much more accessible and convenient.
Future Prospects
With the extension of Metro 5 to Ulhasnagar, the MMRDA is also planning to connect it with other metro lines.
For instance, the ‘Wadala – Thane – Kasarvadvali Metro 4’ line will be connected to ‘Metro 5,’ thereby increasing its coverage area.
In the future, the ‘CSMT – Ulhasnagar’ high-speed travel will also become a reality.
The MMRDA’s decision to extend Metro 5 to Ulhasnagar is a commendable step towards building better transportation infrastructure and improving the quality of life of its citizens.
