According to the most recent data released by the MMMOCL, the combined number of passengers who rode Mumbai Metro Lines 2A (Anand Nagar to Andheri West) and Line 7 (Gundavali to Ovaripada) has topped 3 crores.
Additionally, the average daily passenger count on both metro lines is getting close to 2 lakh, which experts predict would be reached by the end of June after the rains start.
Additionally, line 2A has a substantially higher passenger volume than Line 7.
Data from MMMOCL for June 1–8 shows that, when all 30 stations were combined, more than 1.69 lakh people used both Metro lines every day on average. The busiest of them is Andheri (W) on line 2A and Gundavali on line 7, with daily averages of over 18,500 people each.
According to officials, the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar metro line is connected by Gundavali and Andheri (W), making it even more popular.
With 2430 and 1887 daily passengers, respectively, Goregaon (W) and Devipada are the two stations on Metro lines 2A and 7 that are the least often frequented.
Due to a variety of factors, many commuters now choose the metro over the local trains in Mumbai.
Karishma Lama, a resident of Mira Road who commutes to Andheri every day for business, claimed that traffic jams and subsequent crowded local trains had led her to favour the metro as her preferred mode of transport when returning from the workplace. Since she began using the Metro, intense summer heat and humidity have been greatly reduced. Furthermore, particularly during peak hours, the trains are becoming more crowded and delayed every day. She said that she also hopes that the long stretch up to Mira-Bhayandar will soon resume because it will help a lot of commuters like her.
This is important to note since Indian Railways is considering calling for bids in June to upgrade the suburban rail system with Vande Metro or a new batch of AC locals under the MUTP-3A.
Since phase 1 initially started in April 2022, the rise of the daily passenger count has been increasing gradually but steadily. The average daily amount has been circling between 1.60 and 1.70 lacks.
The morning peak hours from 8:30 am to 11 am and the evening peak hours from 5 pm to 8:30 pm are when most people use Metro Lines 2A and 7.
The MMRDA has created commuter parking areas below metro stations, constructed 8-foot over-bridges connecting the east and west sides of the metro stations, and provides last-mile connectivity via BEST bus services in an effort to encourage the usage of metro transportation.
