MRVC Constructing Two New Car Sheds for Mumbai Suburban Trains

The Mumbai Rail Development Corporation (MRVC) has begun work on two new car sheds to handle suburban trains in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Both the Western Railway (WR) in Vangaon and the Central Railway (CR) in Bhivpuri are constructing car sheds. The total cost of the project is INR 2352.77 crore.

The project has been authorized to meet Mumbai’s rising need for suburban rail maintenance. The two additional car barns are scheduled to be completed in December 2025. For train inspection, which is now done manually, the new car sheds will contain cutting-edge equipment and high-tech sensors.
