Mumbai Coastal Road Project Reaches 70% Completion Mark: Pics Here

Mumbai, one of the busiest cities in India, is notorious for its traffic congestion, which leads to wastage of time and fuel. To address this issue, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had initiated the construction of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project, which aims to reduce traffic congestion and save commuter time.

The latest development in this regard is that the project has reached a completion level of 70%.

According to Ashwini Bhide, the Additional Municipal Commissioner of BMC and MD of Mumbai Metro Corporation, the project, which stretches up to 10.58 km and has 2.07 km long twin tunnels, has made significant progress.

The project’s alignment starts from BD Somani Chowk on Marine Drive, next to the Princess Street Flyover, and will merge with Bandra Worli Sea Link on the Worli side.

In November 2021, the project was 65% complete, and in a recent tweet on Jan 2023, Bhide announced that it has now reached a 70% completion level.

She also shared pictures of the flyover and interchange of the coastal road under construction.

The BMC released a video shot by a drone showing the coastal road, which is expected to reduce travel time by 70% and fuel consumption by 34%.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) aims to open the project later this year, by November 2023.

The Mumbai Coastal Road Project is expected to bring significant relief to Mumbaikars, who spend a considerable amount of time on the roads.

The average speed on Mumbai’s roads is around 20-21 kmph, while it is estimated to be around 75 kmph for cars on the Mumbai Coastal Road, similar to that on the Bandra Worli Sea Link.

The construction of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project is a significant step in addressing Mumbai’s traffic congestion issue.
