Mumbai CSMT-Uran train to be operational by March End

The final leg of the Nerul/Belapur-Uran route is expected to open by the end of March, as per officials from Central Railway.

This project has been in progress for several years, with the first phase between Nerul/Belapur and Kharkopar opened in November 2018.

The last phase, work between Uran and Kharkopar, is currently in its final stages. The Commissioner of Railway Safety is set to inspect the route on March 4 and 6, after which the project will be completed.

The project is expected to provide a convenient mode of transportation between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

A senior official from the Central Railway has confirmed that the track-laying work up to Uran has been completed. Once the final phase commences, commuters will be able to travel between Nerul/Belapur and Uran without any interruption.

This project has been in progress for several years, and the first phase was opened to passengers in November 2018.

The completion of this project is expected to provide a significant boost to transportation between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

Although the Commissioner of Railway Safety was scheduled to inspect the Nerul/Belapur-Uran route on March 4 and 6, sources suggest that the inspection may be delayed by a few days due to a local train derailment on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, officials remain optimistic that the project will be completed by the end of the month, subject to CRS approval.

The completion of the project will enable Mumbaikars to travel from Nerul/Belapur to Uran without any interruptions and will provide a significant boost to transportation between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

The Belapur-Uran local train project is a crucial component of the Navi Mumbai airport connectivity plan. Of the 26.7 km stretches, the 12 km track up to Kharkopar currently provides 40 services with two suburban trains. The project is being undertaken on a cost-sharing basis with CIDCO.

According to officials, the project would have been completed by September 2022, but work on some patches has been delayed due to opposition from local villagers. However, the affected areas have been restored, and the project is now focused on completing the final phase.

Once completed, the Nerul/Belapur-Uran route will provide commuters with a convenient and efficient mode of transportation between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Once completed, this project will connect Uran with CSMT. The project is expected to benefit thousands of people.
