Mumbai Metro 2A and 7 trial to start from January 2021

According to RA Rajeev, the commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said that the trail runs for the Metro line 2A (D N Nagar to Dahisar) and Metro line 7 (Dahisar East to Andheri East) will commence from January 14, 2021.

The first set of trains is expected to be received by the end of this year in December as against the earlier expectation to receive in August. Commercial operations for Metro 2A and Metro 7 lines are expected to start from May 2021. MMRDA will commence operation on these lines with 10 train sets with a headway of 20-25 minutes between each train initially. As per 2016 approved rates, commuters are expected to be charged at ₹10 for a journey for 3 KM.

Mumbai Metro 2A and 7 were supposed to be operation by December 2020; however, due to Covid-19 lockdown resulted in delays. According to MMRDA, over 7000 workers worked on the metro projects before the lockdown announcement. Currently, 6322 workers are working at the sites. Also, a special team formed to work on stretches that require more work-force for its completion.

The Metro line 2A Dahisar to D N Nagar will be having 17 elevated stations, and line 7 from Dahisar East to Andheri East will have 13 elevated stations. The total length of the Mumbai Metro line 2A stretch is 18.6 KM, and Metro line 7 is 16.5. The two metros, a total of 35.1 KM in length is almost 80% completed, and the remaining civil work is expected to be completed in the next few months.
