Standing at the cusp of progress, the Mumbai Metro has achieved a critical milestone in its aim of being the most efficient and environmentally friendly mode of transport around the Mumbai city. With the safety certification now being awarded for both the Red Line (Line 7) and Yellow Line (Line 2A) the metro will now be able to operate without any restrictions and will further be able to increase the speed at which it functions.
In accordance with the aforementioned, the Chief Commissioner of Rail Safety (CCRS) has now provided these two metro lines with the necessary approval as per the safety requirements, which will further allow the new set of train lines to function at 80 kmph instead of the limited 50 to 60 kmph that were imposed earlier, making the future modes of transport useful and efficient. As more and more routes open up with the increase in the speed of the transport, travel will easily become faster and more reliable.
This extension in speed will enhance the travel time as well as the hyped efficiency of the metro system putting into consideration the rising volume of commuters on the other hand. The development is promising enough as new routes keep opening with maximized transport speed meaning that travel will soon be easier and quicker reducing the strain on the other means of transport within the city.
The carrying capacity of the metro lines seems to already appealing in the current stats which claim that the Yellow Line will be operating along an 18.6 km stretch while the Red Line will run along a 16.5 km stretch, combining for a total of over 2.5 lakh riders daily, and more than 15 crore riders post the operational shift.
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) undertakes modernization of the metro lines with the latest procurement of driverless train operations, communication based train control (CBTC) signalling, platform screen doors, modern ticketing systems and many more.
