Mumbai Set to Host 2nd G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Meeting

Mumbai, one of India’s largest and most vibrant cities, is set to host the second meeting of the G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, preparations are already in full swing for the upcoming meeting scheduled from May 23 to 25.

Mumbai’s accomplishments in disaster management have been praised both nationally and internationally.

The forthcoming G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group meeting provides a platform to exhibit these accomplishments globally.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal convened a meeting to review the preparations being made by the BMC and other agencies for the event.

The meeting, which took place at the BMC headquarters, was attended by representatives from over 120 member countries.

Chahal emphasized the need for seamless coordination among all stakeholders and timely completion of pending tasks during the review meeting.

He urged departments to complete their respective jurisdiction’s tasks related to roads, sanitation, and beautification within the given timeline.

Chahal reminded all agencies involved to consider the feedback from dignitaries at previous G20 meetings in the city.

He emphasized the need to complete ongoing renovation works in the BMC Headquarters building on time, with good coordination with all other stakeholder agencies.

The Working Group representatives will inspect the Disaster Management Department’s control room and participate in a heritage walk at the BMC headquarters.

Chahal instructed to ensure timely completion of all ongoing renovation works in the building.

In May, Mumbai will host three G20 Council Working Group Meetings.

The concerned departments are expected to complete works related to roads, sanitation, beautification, and more within their jurisdiction in time.

The experiences of dignitaries during previous G20 meetings in the city should be taken into account.

A review of the preparations in this regard will be conducted next week.

BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has stressed the importance of coordination and completion of works within the prescribed time frame.
