Mumbai’s Suburban Railway Receives Major Boost with Additional Six New Stations

The project is a cost-sharing initiative between the Maharashtra government’s City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and the Railways. 

The Railways will bear one-third of the project cost, while CIDCO will fund the rest, with the total project cost estimated to be INR 2,900 crores.

Five new stations will be part of the new extension of the Uran line, while the sixth station, Dighe, will be on the Thane-Vashi corridor. 

The new stations will increase the total number of local train stations in Mumbai to 123, providing greater connectivity and accessibility to commuters in the region.

CIDCO is playing a vital role in the development of the new railway stations, taking care of two-thirds of the project cost, while the Railways bear one-third of the cost. 

The project is estimated to cost INR 2,900 crores.

Dighe station will be a part of an elevated corridor planned between Airoli and Kalwa to connect Navi Mumbai Trans-Harbor Line and Main Line. 

The new elevated line will begin from the point where Thane Belapur Road intersects with the Thane-Vashi line, with Dighe Station planned between Thane and Airoli stations along the Transharbor Line.

The opening of the new stations is expected to create more employment opportunities, boost economic growth, and encourage more people to use public transportation. 

The project will greatly benefit the residents of the city, and with crucial Belapur-Seawoods-Uran, the administration aims to improve accessibility to the central part of Navi Mumbai from other outlying areas of the region.
