According to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday i.e August 10, the highly anticipated Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) will be in operation by the end of this year.

It will be connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai and will become accessible for public use in the months to come, subsequently followed by the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), which is expected to significantly change how Navi Mumbai is recognised.

CM Shinde announced the official opening of the trans harbour link, which will be followed by the inauguration of Navi Mumbai airport, in order to dramatically change the satellite city. Billionaire Gautam Adani also declared that Navi Mumbai Airport is “preparing for operational readiness and airport transition (ORAT) by December 2024)” at the Adani Group’s annual general meeting in the month of July.

Navi Mumbai Sustainable City Conference

Opelox Media & Marketing organised a day-long seminar tagged Sustainable Cities 2030 with the goal of making Navi Mumbai a sustainable city. Many developers from prestigious organisations, like NAREDCO, MCHI, CREDAI, and the Builders Association of Navi Mumbai (BANM), attended the conference.

Shinde specifically addressed architects, city planners, and property developers via video conference and stated that “When we talk about Sustainable Cities 2030, we need to realise that 2030 is not far away. He stressed the importance of making Navi Mumbai a sustainable city. “Several infrastructure projects in MMR, including MTHL, NMIA, Coastal Road, and unified development control regulations (DCR), will bring significant shifts and development opportunities for MMR’s infrastructure and real estate, including Navi Mumbai,” he said.

Longest Sea Bridge in India

It is the longest sea bridge in India and the tenth longest sea bridge in the world, measuring across a span of 22 kilometres.

The 22-km long, six-lane Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link Bridge has been projected to cut the distance from Sewri and Navi Mumbai’s travel time in half to 15-20 minutes. By extending connection between the island city and the mainland (Navi Mumbai), the bridge would ease traffic in the island city once it becomes operational. Additionally, an open tolling system in the manner of Singapore will be implemented.

The initiative is being implemented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and it is being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) covers Navi Mumbai, a nearby satellite city that formed in the 1960s. Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is going to facilitate travel from Mumbai to Pune and Goa as well as to ease congestion between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
