On Monday The chief minister of Maharashtra state, Eknath Shinde directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to construct a seaside plaza at the Marine Drive which is known to be the area of Mumbai where tourists from all over the country and abroad visits and he also directed to provide other facilities to enhance the experience of the tourists and sightseeing.
Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, Maharashtra State Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar, Minister of Women, Child, and Tourism Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Ashish Sharma, and Deputy Commissioner (Circle Dr Sangita Hasanale all were with Chief Minister as he spoke during the inspection of the development works.
The chief minister stated that tourists from all over the world visit Mumbai and that the Marine Drive area is a must-see for all tourists, making several suggestions to improve it. He instructed the municipal administration to colour-code all buildings in the Marine Drive area with views of the sea. He suggested establishing a world-class laser show in this location.
Commissioner Chahal mentioned the construction of a viewing deck (also known as a seaside plaza) on Marine Drive while providing details about the Municipal Corporation’s ongoing projects.
The planning division will be in charge of building the viewing deck. He mentioned that there will be a jetty that would have a 53-meter-long and 5-meter-wide seaside plaza where tourists could walk and enjoy the view of the sea.
“In the coming days, Sea Face seating arrangements will be made in the Marine Drive area. The tourist will get a decent, comfortable spot to see the ocean. In such a manner, the work is being started,” Chahal referenced.
In the meantime, the Chief Minister also directed the authorities that there should be the construction of high-quality restrooms every kilometre in the Marine Drive area.
The Marine Drive area is the recent addition to the city’s Unesco World Heritage list hence it is already a popular tourist destination. The promenade is expected to become even more appealing to visitors with these updated features and amenities.
