Mumbai’s golf fans can’t wait for the Kharghar Valley Golf Course (KVGC) to open in the early 2024. The Kharghar Valley Golf Club (KVGC) is being upgraded to a par-72, 18-hole course encompassing an amazing 7,137 yards. Golf Design India is completing the project, estimated to cost Rs 109.65 crore.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) first unveiled the KVGC, a nine-hole course with a current length of 3,665 yards, in February 2012. The course was initially limited to an area of around 100 acres, and plans to expand were stalled by the forest department due to problems with land clearance and authorization. It was designed and constructed by the Australian business Pacific Coast Design. However, these problems have been rectified, and the KVGC is scheduled to reopen in January 2024 as an 18-hole course.
Sanjay Mukherjee, vice-chairman of CIDCO, stated to a local media, “The upgrading of the golf course is scheduled to be finished by December 2023. We suggest putting it into service on January 1, 2024. It will give golfers an unmatched golfing experience and draw visitors from all over the world.
The KVGC will be Mumbai’s first public golf course and give the city’s golfers, who can now choose another alternative from only three 18-hole facilities. The second leg of the relaunched BT Golf’s 2022–23 season saw a solid turnout, demonstrating the rising interest in the sport; therefore, the KVGC will be a welcome option.
The KVGC is conveniently located in Navi Mumbai and about an hour’s drive from the heart of Mumbai, making it accessible to golfers from both cities. Golfers can have a distinctive and beautiful experience on the course, which is flanked by lush green hills, the famous Pandavkhada waterfalls on one side, and Central Park on the other.
The original KVGC layout had numerous water features, bunkers, and elevation changes. Although the upgraded course’s design is still unknown, based on the CIDCO official’s comments, Mumbai’s swingers who lack access to golf courses may find it to be an interesting complement to the United Services Club (Colaba), the Willingdon Sports Club, and the Bombay Presidency Golf Club.
The KVGC offers reasonable walk-in pricing, and visitors can rent clubs and carts from the course itself. There are also some simple coaching facilities available at the nearby driving range. The KVGC is poised to offer golfers an unmatched golfing experience and draw visitors worldwide thanks to its enhanced amenities.
