Mumbai's Water Reservoirs Near Full Capacity at 98.28% Following Recent Rainfall

According to the most recent statistics released by the BMC on Wednesday, “the water stock in the lakes supplying drinking water to Mumbai is now at 98.28%. The total water storage in the seven reservoirs is currently 1422522 million litres until 6 a.m. on September 20. Although rainfall in September was still below expectations, it did bring some good news for Mumbai residents, with the percentage of useful content of live water storage crossing 98% and moving closer to the water levels in 2022, which were 98.52% or 1425933 million litres of water”.

According to the most available BMC data, “the water content of Upper Vaitarna is 95.97%, Middle Vaitarna is 97.71%, and Tansa is 99.06%. As of September 20, Bhatsa had achieved 98.62% of its capacity, while Tulsi, Modak Sagar, and Vihar Lakes had reached their maximum capacity”.

“Mumbai and its suburbs, including the adjoining districts of Thane and Palghar, continue to see light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy spells in some regions. Till 6 a.m. on September 20, Mumbai had received 17.74 mm and 17.1 mm of rain in the previous two days. The eastern and western suburbs received 18.84 mm and 12.45 mm of rain, respectively, till 6 a.m. on Wednesday”, a report stated.

Mumbai City has a depth of 17.74 mm.

Eastern Suburbs: 18.84 mm; Western Suburbs: 12.45 mm.

According to the latest BMC tweet, Mumbai and its suburbs will continue to receive light to moderate rainfall on September 20.

Vaitarna Upper. At 91.51% of its 227,047 million litres of live storage capacity, in comparison to 99.58% at the same period last year. Today’s rainfall totaled 24 mm. Total precipitation since June 1: 2,228 mm. The lake provides 16% of the water for Mumbai.

Middle Vaitarna: at 97.84% of its 193,530 million litres of live storage capacity, in contrast to 94.10% at the same period last year. 19 mm of rain fell today. Total precipitation since June 1: 2,123 mm. The lake provides 12% of the water for Mumbai.

96.99% of its 128,925 million litres of live storage capacity, in comparison with 100.00% at the exact time the previous year. 13 mm of rain fell today. Total precipitation since June 1: 2,929 mm. The lake contributes 2% of its water to Mumbai. The season’s first overflow occurred on July 20 at 01:25 hrs.

Barvi is currently at 98.33% of its live capacity for storage of 338,840 million litres, up from 68.00% at exactly the same time last year. Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Mira-Bhayander, Bhiwandi, and Navi Mumbai receive water from the Barvi dam.
