Navi Mumbai Airport: Shinde and Fadnavis Ensure Timely Completion; Operations Expected by 2024

Navi Mumbai is all set to witness a remarkable milestone with the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently paid a visit to the construction site, expressing their confidence in its timely completion and assuring the public that the airport will commence operations by 2024.

Accompanied by a team of officials, Shinde and Fadnavis embarked on an exhilarating aerial tour, observing the progress and scale of this ambitious project. Flying over the construction site, they witnessed the dedication and hard work put in by the diligent workers.

A Gift to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai

Chief Minister Shinde, beaming with pride, referred to the NMIA as a special “gift” to the people of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. With the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) experiencing congestion, the new airport aims to alleviate this issue while igniting economic growth in the region.

Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis shared Shinde’s enthusiasm and assured everyone that the NMIA would be nothing short of world-class. It is expected to handle a staggering 90 million passengers annually, providing seamless connectivity through the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), the coastal road, and the metro system.

The NMIA is a project of great importance to Maharashtra, developed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) with an estimated cost of Rs 17,000 crore.
