A multi-story parking lot in Belapur is almost finished by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), which is a key development aimed at reducing roadside parking in Navi Mumbai. The long-awaited parking structure, which is now in the final stages of development, will soon welcome visitors.
The multi-story parking lot is strategically positioned next to Palm Beach Road, Belapur Court, and the recently constructed Jetty for water transportation at plot number 39 in Sector 15, Belapur. Additionally, there are several infrastructure projects underway in this area, which increases the demand for designated parking places. Currently, due to a lack of adequate parking spaces, automobiles are parked along the roads, which is inconvenient and congested.
The NMMC has taken the initiative to put measures in place to address the issue of roadside parking because it recognises the importance of finding a solution. In 2018, the corporation and CIDCO worked together to successfully purchase two plots in the CBD Belapur ward and another site in the Vashi ward. Within the NMMC region, these sites were designated especially for parking facilities.
In recent years, Sector 15 in Belapur has become a bustling commercial centre, and it is anticipated that in the next years, more people will visit this neighbourhood.
Due to numerous ongoing and prospective infrastructural developments, including the proposed Marina and the recently renovated Belapur-Uran motorway, the Builders Association of Navi Mumbai (BANM) has recognised this trend and classified Belapur as a sought-after commercial location.
The Belapur parking lot that is now under construction was recently examined under the direction of civic chief Rajesh Narvekar. Narvekar gave the go-ahead for the remaining tasks to be completed quickly so that the facility can be used by the public as soon as possible. In order to increase revenue, he also ordered the technical staff to look into the potential of using digital billboards inside the parking lot.
The NMMC is aware of the demand for charging stations as electric cars (EVs) gain in popularity. The need for charging infrastructure has grown as there are more and more EVs on the road. Municipal Commissioner Narvekar encouraged officials to include charging stations in the parking facility during his inspection of the lot, emphasising their significance.
Residents and visitors may anticipate a more orderly and effective parking experience as the opening of NMMC’s first multi-story parking lot in Belapur approaches. This new construction is anticipated to greatly lessen the area’s problems with on-street parking, resulting in improved convenience for all users and a smoother flow of traffic.
The NMMC is continuing to give the citizens of Navi Mumbai’s infrastructure and quality of life improvements top priority with this most recent effort. The completion of Belapur’s multi-story parking lot represents a significant advancement in the city’s effort to handle its parking issues and demonstrates the corporation’s dedication to building a contemporary and well-planned urban environment.
