The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is getting ready to reopen the city’s most popular tourist destination, more than three years after it was forced to close with the arrival of Covid-19 in March 2020. This follows a significant renovation that was completed a few months ago at a cost of Rs 28 crore.
Concerns have been raised by locals and activists regarding the unheard-of delay in reopening, the inflated budgetary allocation for renovations, and the revised entry fees.
Without further delay, the facility would be reopened soon, according to NMMC Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar. Sanjay Desai, the city engineer for NMMC, stated that the park had a significant makeover while it was closed and that it has since been enlarged with more amenities than its previous range of entertainment. Visitors can spend many hours here because of the abundance of scenery. The park has undergone a significant modernization. Without a doubt, the facility will open on 30th May which will be inaugurated by the CM of the state, Eknath Shinde.
According to activist Rajeev Mishra, it is a waste of revenue that could have been used for other initiatives. Since there is nothing that draws tourists’ interest, the entrance fees are excessive and appear to be unacceptably costly for the average person. In order to enter the building where the construction of a science park is taking place, tourists will now have to pay increased entry fees. Children aged five to twelve will now pay Rs 40 instead of Rs 25, while those over the age of twelve will now pay Rs 50 instead of Rs 35.
The NMMC has also launched a smart card that can be recharged, which guests will receive upon arrival. The use of smart cards, according to NMMC, will eliminate the need to go up to the ticket windows. Children don’t have to wait in line to enjoy rides. A new musical fountain laser display and audio-visual equipment are part of the renovation. By beautifying ponds, enhancing walkways, replacing play equipment, installing CCTV cameras, deploying biometric devices at entries, and modernising the lighting system, the city government has also enhanced the park’s appearance.
The Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Great Wall of China, the Colosseum, Christ the Redeemer, and the Statue of Liberty are just a few of the iconic structures that are represented there in miniature form. Visitors can get a peek at the world’s architectural wonders through the replicas.
The park has a musical fountain, a toy railway, and a number of other attractions in addition to the replicas of the Seven Wonders.
