New Arm of Mumbai Coastal Road Opens, Cutting Travel Time from Haji Ali to Marine Drive; Final Worli Section Expected by March

On Wednesday, another arm of the Mumbai Coastal Road that connects Marine Drive and Haji Ali Juice Center opened to the traffic. Now, the vehicles can reach to the Marine Drive straight from Haji Ali by the high-speed link. Apart from this direct access that was given by the Bandra Worli Sea Link, southbound drivers had to earlier coastal routes by either the Worli interchange or Amarson’s intersection back then.

The Haji Ali interchange has eight vehicle arms that is followed by the Amarson’s and Worli interchanges, which have four, five and again four arms each. But now, there is only one arm waiting for an opening at the Worli interchange that will give northbound cars who will be traveling from Worli direct access to the Bandra Worli Sea Link.

“The last section at the Worli interchange of Mumbai Coastal Road, providing direct access from Worli to the Bandra Worli Sea Link for northbound traffic, is in its final stage. We expect it to open by the third week of March,” said a BMC official.

Meanwhile, the northbound arm of the coastal road, which is a bow-string bridge connected to the Bandra Worli Sea Link was opened on 27 January 2025. This new route has really cut the travel time between Bandra and Marine Drive to just 10 to 12 minutes. It also provides a more efficient and faster option for thousands of people who travel daily.

“The arms of the interchanges were being opened in a phased manner since the balance works like evening the road surfaces were underway. Now only one arm remains, which will be opened by us in the next one month,” said an official. “We also had to construct vehicular parking spaces for the traffic arms, as a result of which the opening of these arms took some time,” he added further.
