On Sunday evening, a portion of the boundary wall of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) collapsed, causing security concerns. An RTI activist, Anil Galgali, shared a video showcasing the damage on Monday, bringing the incident to light.

A spokesperson for the Mumbai International Airport Limited explained that ongoing construction and maintenance work on the city-side near the wall led to the collapse. There are suspicions that a BMC contractor might have been responsible for the collapse due to the use of JCB machines.

Galgali has called for urgent action from the airport administration, emphasizing the need to address the situation to prevent further security risks. He also raised concerns about the pace at which the wall is being rebuilt and the adequacy of safety measures being taken.

CSMIA’s Airside Security and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were informed of the incident as soon as it was reported. After the portion of the boundary wall collapsed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the airport administration quickly took action. They deployed additional guards to the location and put up safety barricades to secure the area. Thankfully, the incident did not cause any disruptions to airport operations or services, and no one was injured. It’s a relief to know that the airport takes safety and security seriously and acted swiftly to handle the situation.

Despite the incident, CSMIA remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and security for passengers and staff. The airport is taking all necessary steps to investigate the cause of the collapse and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The collapse of the boundary wall at CSMIA highlights the importance of maintaining robust safety and security measures at all times. CSMIA’s swift response to the incident and commitment to addressing the situation quickly and effectively is reassuring for all those who use the airport.
