In an unforgettable event, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis embarked on a special test drive along the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) corridor. This drive marked a significant milestone in the construction of the bridge—an achievement that signifies substantial progress on this impressive infrastructure project. Let’s take a closer look at this remarkable journey, filled with human warmth and excitement.

The MTHL project encompasses a magnificent 22-kilometer stretch, linking Sewri in Mumbai to Chirle in Navi Mumbai. Constructing this bridge presented numerous challenges, but the team overcame them with dedication and expertise. The construction involved the careful assembly of seventy long spans, each consisting of an Orthotropic Steel Deck (OSD). These spans varied in length, ranging from 65 to 180 meters, and were meticulously erected in Package-1 and Package-2. The completion of the concrete superstructure spans along the entire 22-kilometer length of the project is indeed a noteworthy accomplishment.

With the deck slab work now finished, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link ensures a seamless journey for vehicles, eliminating any obstacles or disruptions. To commemorate this significant milestone, an event was held, during which Devendra Fadnavis took the wheel of a Lexus car, accompanied by Eknath Shinde. Together, they embarked on an exhilarating test drive, covering a remarkable distance of approximately 14 kilometers (both ways) in just 40 minutes.

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is set to open its doors to the public before the end of this year, bringing joy and convenience to commuters. Chief Minister Shinde expressed heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support of the central government, sharing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have the honor of inaugurating this remarkable bridge. Shinde firmly believes that the completion of this project will be a game-changer, fostering socio-economic growth in the region. Furthermore, plans are underway to establish a growth center in Navi Mumbai, aptly named the “Third Mumbai,” contributing to the region’s prosperity.

Metropolitan Commissioner SVR Srinivas proudly highlighted the extraordinary progress made in executing the bridge project. Surpassing the initial target of 35 percent completion, an impressive 56 percent progress was achieved within just two years. This exemplary achievement reflects the dedication and efficiency of all those involved in the construction of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link.
