A man is reportedly shown in a social media video doing drugs on a Mumbai local train. The video was published on X, formerly Twitter, by someone who was presumably travelling the same train as well and said that a squad of six males and one lady were allegedly carrying and using a variety of drugs.
The group claimed to have boarded the train at Nalasopara station late that night on September 1, the day of the event.
A male in a black shirt appears to be witnessed in the video, which has become popular on social media, inhaling white powder while being assisted by another person.
“@Mumbai_police_ In addition to having a group of six guys and one girl with them, the drug-using men on the local train also had a lot of drugs in their pockets. They are all getting away from Nalasopara station on January 9, 2023, at 1:25 AM in the night, according to the tweet.
The Divisional Railway Manager of Western Railway was tagged by railway authorities in a Twitter response. In a tweet, Mumbai Central Division stated that the relevant officials had been informed of the situation and would take the appropriate measures.
Many social media users had harsh reactions to the video and asked that the group be severely punished. Concerns concerning the security of people using the public transit system were also voiced by certain users.
A lot of users demanded that they receive an appropriate penalty, while others expressed concern for the security of the travellers of the public transit system while tagged by Mumbai Police and Railway officials.
“This seems to be the new normal since our law treats all such cases so generously”, another user on X commented.
“It is routine ”, one of the users commented on the video. “In front of @grpmumbai, where you board any mail or express train, they sell smokes and gutkha. The only possible outcome after this is that you could get into trouble, so exercise caution. Your bravery is admirable”.
The Divisional Railway Manager of Western Railway was branded by railway officials as “responding to the complaints.” Mumbai Central Division responded by tweeting that “the matter has been brought to the attention of the relevant officials for further action.”
Earlier this year, two males could be seen on a video smoking, much to the disgust of bystanders. The passengers who recorded their actions also reported that the youths continued to smoke and scream insults at other passengers when they complained about their behaviour.
The Divisional Railway Manager immediately ordered the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to look into the situation.
A lookout alert has been distributed to all RPF as well as government railway police posts, according to a top Western Railway officer. They shall be dealt with appropriately if they are discovered near railway zones. It looks like those in question were in the local train’s luggage area.
Concerned officials have been informed of the issue and will take the appropriate action.
Authorities are currently actively looking into the situation to find and punish individuals responsible for the suspected drug consumption.
