The municipality will be charged a monetary fine for any vehicles travelling fast enough over the bridge on the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd link route. The BMC has chosen to install a “speed violation detection system” that will allow traffic police to automatically identify people who are driving faster than the posted speed limit, which is now restricted to 50kmph. This follows a commotion caused by a number of accidents on the flyover.

For cars travelling from Ghatkopar to Vashi, Navi Mumbai, a connection road between Ghatkopar and Mankhurd has been built. This route saw the beginning of the congested area in the eastern suburbs which includes Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, and Chembur. A flyover has been built along this road as a remedy. Since it opened, this bridge has been in the news. Uddhav Thackeray, the then-chief minister, had voiced his discontent with the resurfacing work during the inaugural ceremony.

He had issued a traffic safety advisory. Following the inauguration, two-wheeler accidents on the flyover became commonplace.

A month after being made partially accessible to the public, the 2.9-km flyover had to be shut down. Numerous accidents have occurred as a result of its overly slick roads. The surface is then made rough by BMC. A Govandi teenager died in an accident on the flyover the previous year.

Vehicles that exceed the maximum speed limit on that road will receive a violation notification from the speed violation detecting system. Each vehicle’s speed will be recorded by this system, along with the images of any that go faster than the posted speed limit.

In order to monitor speed infractions at the traffic police headquarters, the Speed Violation Detection System will be connected with the current central control software. As a result, vehicle speed can be managed. Due to its high accident risk, the flyover is not accessible to big vehicles or two-wheelers.
