Thane’s traffic woes may soon be a thing of the past as a study on the proposed Thane coastal road has recently received approval from MMRDA, building a coastal road that would bypass all traffic in the area.
The study will assess the feasibility and impact of the proposed project, which aims to connect Mumbai and Thane via a coastal road. The project is anticipated to reduce traffic in the area and offer travellers a quicker and more comfortable journey.
The suggested six-lane road will be constructed from Kharegaon to Anand Nagar Naka at Kopri, connecting the Bhiwandi bypass.
In order to facilitate an easy flow of traffic emerging from Samruddhi Mahamarg, the Mumbai Nashik Expressway, Kalyan, as well as other zones, the MMRDA has a proposal for a coastal road.
According to reports, the study will cover various aspects of the project, such as the environmental impact, cost estimates, and design options.
The MMRDA is expected to allocate funds for the study and select a consultant to carry out the research. It’s going to take the investigation approximately six months to finish.
The proposed coastal road in Thane is part of the larger project that aims to improve overall traffic congestion in Thane.
Currently, Thane is facing a major problem of traffic congestion due to heavy container vehicles passing through Thane.
These heavy vehicles must pass through Thane to transport containers from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust to the western and northern states of India.
The National Highway Authority of India is constructing the Vadodara – Mumbai Expressway, reducing the number of containers passing through Thane.
Also, The Mumbai Nagpur Super communication highway is planned and expected to be completed in 2024
In addition to the coastal road project, the MMRDA plans to construct a long flyover at LBS Marg near Castle Mill and another at MG Road at Naupada.
The goal is to ease traffic issues in the neighbourhood and make transportation easier.
The flyover will have two lanes on either side, and the MMRDA has assured that it will not disrupt traffic flow on the existing road.
To improve connectivity and address traffic-related issues inside Mumbai’s major city, the MMRDA has already been engaged in various construction projects. The coastal road project is one of the major projects that aims to provide faster and smoother travel between Mumbai and Thane.
The approval of the study on the proposed coastal road in Thane and the construction of the flyover are positive developments for the residents of Thane. The plans are hoped to enhance citizens’ travel conditions and reduce traffic jams in the region.
In conclusion, the MMRDA’s plans to construct the coastal road and flyover in Thane are expected to improve the connectedness and ease the traffic jam in the area.
The projects are a step towards improving the groundwork in Mumbai city and providing a better travelling experience for the citizens. Thane’s traffic jams might soon become a thing of the past.
