Thane: TMC head fines contractor INR 5 lakh for errors found on roads

An official stated on Tuesday that the civic body in Thane, Maharashtra, has launched a significant crackdown and given contractors and officials show-cause notices and fines of up to Rs 5 lakh for errors made during current construction in the city.

For the benefit of Thane residents, the state government has allocated a fund of Rs 605 crore to ensure the development of high-quality, pothole-free roads. Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, visited Thane on May 22 to check various road and drainage projects. Mistakes with the roadways and drain cleaning operations were found during the inspection. As a result, the TMC executive engineer was served with a show cause notice and fined Rs 5 lakh by Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Commissioner Abhijit Bangar.

Contractors and government representatives were previously warned by Thane Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar that any breaches in the city’s ongoing construction projects would not be allowed.

The road between Tikujiniwadi Circle to the split in Neelkanth Road and Harit Janpath was discovered to be in poor condition. In this location, the trees are in a dry state. Sewage, plastic, and other garbage were also found there. The contractor of this business, Messers Nisarga Landscape Pvt. Ltd., received a show cause notice from the Commissioner after vacant spaces were spotted on Harit Janpath. Additionally, instructions have been provided in the aforementioned notice to remove wild grass trees and replace them with new trees, plant new trees in open areas, and remove any dry trees.

The contractor was also given a show-cause notice because the trees were not irrigated regularly and were discovered to be in a dry state.

The business Venkatesha has been awarded the contract for road cleaning in Pawar Nagar, which is under the Vartak Nagar Ward Committee. Additionally, it was discovered that the workers on the roads were not given gloves or any other safety gear. Following, a notice issued to the concerned contractor due to waste mounds at various locations along the road, a fine of INR 10,000 has been imposed.
