According to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), the Gandhinagar flyover would be finished by June 10 and relieve traffic on Pokhran Lane 2.
TMC started work on widening the road in 2016 and finished construction on the flyover in 2017 for a total of Rs. 6 crores. The inhabitants and commuters from Majhiwada, Hiranandani estate, Upvan, Siddhachal and Ghodbunder are particularly impacted by the road congestion caused by the flyover construction.
From Ghodbunder to Majhiwada, the continuing metro construction has caused severe congestion. Due to the ongoing bridge repair, Pokhran Road 2, which many people use as a backup route to link within the city, also became jammed up.
According to the TMC officer, once the bridge is finished and reopened to traffic, it would clear up traffic on the road and make it easier for people to travel from Yeoor, Hiranandani Meadows, Vasant Vihar, Upvan, and Siddhachal to Ghodbunder.
The project is decided to get finished by June 10 because it is in its final stage. A TMC officer who requested anonymity stated that it should open as soon as possible because it will contribute to a smooth flow of traffic throughout the monsoon as well.
This bridge has been a headache since, when it was narrow, it caused traffic. We all found it to be a huge comfort when the TMC decided to enlarge the bridge. However, even six years later, things are still the same, commuter Mahesh Salunke, 39, remarked.
