An iron feeder tray from a building site dropped on a 63-year-old Mahim resident as she was walking home from the neighbourhood market on Friday, killing her within seconds.
Irene Rodrigues, the deceased’s name, resided at Kapad Bazar, Mahim West. She went to the market near City Light Cinema to buy fish and veggies, along with her brother Tony and older sister Liberata.
According to information provided by the BMC, “a new high-rise building being constructed by Shraddha Construction was being worked on when an iron feeder tray fell, injuring the woman”.
The event happened at Shraddha Construction in Mahim (W), close to a Gurudwara on Guru Nanak Road.
According to her brother, Tony Rodrigues, “someone at the scene of the collision called the last number his sister had called and notified them of the incident”.
“When I arrived at the scene, I discovered that the tray holding construction supplies had fallen from the building’s eighth floor.” My sister passed away immediately as a result of its severe effects”, according to Rodrigues.
He claims that “because there were no safety precautions taken at the construction site, construction materials fell, injuring and ultimately killing her sister”.
The woman was brought to Sion Hospital, where the on-call physician pronounced her dead. On Monday, she will be given her final rites. At the Mahim police station, a FIR was filed in relation to this incident.
Angelo Fernandes, a BJP leader and activist, sought the builder’s arrest. A negligence case against the constructor has been filed by the police.
