A 20-year-old college student was killed early on Saturday in Malwani after getting hit by a BEST bus. According to the authorities, the victim, Farheen Khan, was on his way to college. The driver of the bus has been charged with reckless driving and carelessness.
At 7:50 a.m., the event took place close to the Malwani bus terminal. Mahadev Sasane, the bus’s driver, was driving it from the Malwani depot to the Gaikwad Nagar bus stop. Khan had been hit by the bus as it made a slight left at the ‘out’ gate of the bus terminal.
Afterwards, in a statement to the police, her brother Sahil said that Khan had gone to college at 7 a.m. when the bus struck her in the front. She was taken by ambulance with severe wounds to the Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivali. She passed away from her wounds at the hospital.
Sasane’s BEST coworker reported the incident to the Malwani police. An autopsy was requested for Khan’s body. Before filing a case, the police reviewed the local CCTVs. BEST representatives verified the fatal collision.

According to the police, “Farheen Rizvi was on her way to Patkar College in Malad West when the incident occurred immediately outside gate no. 8”.
According to Farheen’s brother Sahil’s police statement, “the bus heading into the depot hit her from the front.” We were told by witnesses that the driver was speeding towards the depot.” People screamed to alert him that the vehicle had struck someone. He, on the other hand, continued driving, resulting in Farheen’s terrible injuries.” A crowd assembled outside the bus, and some of them drove the woman to Kandivali’s Shatabadi Hospital, where she had been declared dead on reaching.
“We have booked the driver under sections 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code,” a Malvani police officer said.
Kinnu Begum, Farheen’s mother, remarked about her last memories of her one and only daughter. “She had awakened me to inquire about the bus fare and had greeted me before leaving the house.” This was something she did every day.” A few hours later, a police team notified the family that Farheen had died. “I recently lost her father four months ago. Farheen, who was intellectually gifted, was a glimmer of hope for our family”.
Begum went on to say that after the man she married died, Farheen convinced her that the family would soon leave Malvani for a better life. “She used to talk about everything she wanted to do for us once she got a good job. “She was in her last year at college.” “The bus driver was allegedly driving at a high rate of speed when he struck the victim.” “She had injuries all over her body, and we are awaiting post-mortem reports,” a police officer said.
The driver is being recognised as Mahadev Sasane (48), and he has been charged under sections 337 (causing harm), 338 (causing serious harm), and 304 (death by carelessness) of the Motor Vehicle Act, as well as other pertinent laws.
Begum recalled some of those who were there during the tragedy telling her that they all shouted at the driver to pull over or turn around the bus when it first hit Farheen. “He didn’t appear to grasp what people were saying to him. “He drove forward instead, passing over her stomach and delivering the fatal wounds.”
Locals claim that the presence of hawkers and the use of walkways for parking two-wheelers provide no room for walkers. “Everywhere in Malvani, the scenario is the same. The pavement space surrounding stores is used by shops. The road is actually riddled with potholes. Pedestrians are compelled to walk quite near traffic,” Abdul Chaudhary explained.
