Relief for Commuters: Western Railways to Spread Train Halts to Decongest Borivali Station

In a bid to decongest Borivali railway station, Western Railways (WR) has decided to spread the halts of some long-distance trains among other stations, starting from April-May.

Borivali station is considered to be one of the busiest railway stations on the Western line, with around 75 to 80% of passengers boarding and alighting long-distance trains from there.

At present, around five to six trains headed to Gujarat and Delhi, which depart from Mumbai Central or Bandra Terminus, make a halt at Borivali as an intermittent station.

Railway authorities are planning to ease the pressure on Borivali by dividing the halts of selected long-distance trains among stations like Dadar, Andheri, Vasai and/or Boisar or Palghar.

This will ensure that people have more options to board and help prevent overcrowding at Borivali, which is considered one of the busiest railway stations in Mumbai on the Western line.

This will provide people with more options to board, especially those residing in the northern suburbs of Mumbai.

The proposed plan will be implemented on a pilot basis for selected trains, with halts withdrawn from Borivali and reassigned to other important stations.

According to WR officials, this will not only ease travel but also prevent passengers from going all the way till Mumbai Central.

Dadar station will be convenient for people residing in areas between Churchgate and Dadar, while Andheri station will benefit people living in areas from Vile Parle to Goregaon. Vasai station will be helpful for those staying beyond Bhayandar to Virar.

The aim of spreading the halts of long-distance trains among other stations is to reduce the load on Borivali railway station and provide passengers with more travel options.

Due to the concentration of passengers at Borivali, the infrastructure at the station is under immense pressure.

Spreading the halts of long-distance trains among other stations like Dadar, Andheri, Vasai, and/or Boisar or Palghar, depending on the train’s route, will not only decongest Borivali but also improve the travel experience for passengers by reducing overcrowding and improving efficiency.

Commuters who regularly travel to Borivali have welcomed the decision to spread the halts of some long-distance trains among other stations, stating that it will ease congestion and reduce their travel time.

Railway authorities hope that this move will improve the efficiency of the railway system and provide a better travel experience for passengers.

The plan will be implemented on a pilot basis for selected trains, and halts will be withdrawn from Borivali and reassigned to other important stations like Dadar, Andheri, Vasai, and/or Boisar or Palghar, depending on the train’s route.
